| The merry flowers of October Your voice chased away all the sanity in me
Birthday trip by dad & mom to Bangkok!! Awesome or what :)
I'm sure it's known to all that there have been some serious flooding in Thailand recently but we've still decided to go ahead with the trip bringing as little baggage, you know, just in case.
Used a lousy camera throughout the 4 days, some were even taken with my phone.
View from the hotel.
Breakfast at 7 in the morning. (which is 6:00am in Thailand)
The good thing about the hotel I'm staying in is that there's this huge wholesale market just outside the entrance. People start their business there at insane 4:30/5:00am.
See the rows of white/gray patches? That's one stretch of the wholesale market I'm talkin' about.
People are carrying and stacking sandbags everywhere to prevent the flood damage just like how we see it in the news.
They have soooo many temple in Thailand! Even outside a shopping mall. Apparently this driver told us 90% of the people in Thailand are Buddhist that's why.
Taking a ride on their tuk-tuk.
My dad's a lil' sensitive to dusty dirty air.
Spotted many pink cabs on the road.
Outside this art convention centre. Their sculptures are totally amazing.
Went to MBK shopping mall. You'll be surprised by the number of shops they have there, and to top it, clothes and shoes are really cheap. Eg. At 8 SGD you can get a really nice dress that might cost you at least 30 SGD here.
Yup, it's amazing, it really is.
Shop and shop and shop and shop and shop till evening. And yesss omg we love the food they sell on the street. The fried kway teow is HEAVENLY!!
Stuff we bought for the day all nicely piled up ready to be put in the new luggage we just bought there too lol.
Bought this cute flowery head band thing for like 20 cents.
And my new Facebook avatar :)
Next day, went to look for a private tour guide to bring us to the floating market and river kwai as we have difficulties communicating with the people; they don't understand Mandarin nor English and sometimes sign languages have its limitations too y'know.
So luckily we got this really nice tour guide who speaks enough English for us to understand each other.
At the coconut factory.
If there's one food I got sick of eating there, I'd say it's coconuts hands down. They have coconut drink, coconut candy, coconut pancake, coconut everything.
Damnoen Saduak Floating market.
Coconut pancakes (told ya didn't I) that are too sweet for my pleasure.
There are people who actually live here. It came a lil' unbelievable to me at first until I saw this old lady washing herself with buckets of water while wrapped in a towel, not possibly a tourist right.
Spot some water ripples?
We're feeding the fishes! Haha. This cute lil' boy there is the son of the boss of these floating market boats or business or something.
It took an hour or so to go around the whole floating market.
Stopped by this place where these people carved amazing, beautiful stuff out of wood.
Isn't the craftsmanship just delicate?
So we are on our way to the last destination, Kanchanaburi (I hope I didn't get the spelling wrong), and suddenly, the car broke down. We had to pause for an hour or two to get it fixed because we're in the middle of no where and it took at least 3 hours to drive all the way from where we were.
Thank goodness the air-con was still working and all after the fix.
Bridge on the River Kwai :)
Floating restaurants or so they called it.
Candid haha.
Mommy & Dad :)
We wanted to walk to the other end of the bridge but apparently there seem to be no end to it.
What's more, there's no support at the sides so my mom got scared and we had to walk back instead.
Looks almost like a toy train... just life-sized.
Lovely mom and cute dad :)
Gorgeous car parked at the entrance of the museum. Wonder if it's an exhibit or not.
Saw Singapore's flag!
The sky was getting darker and we headed back to our hotel (which was like a 2-hour drive back) Oh, we had pineapple rice for dinner that night too. I've had better in Singapore though.
The 4th and last day in Bangkok, went for a last-minute shopping spree at the wholesale market. Remember me saying that you can get a dress that costs 8 bucks at the mall? Well you can get it for like 3-5 bucks at the wholesale market. I got a long-sleeved top for 3 SGD and a denim jacket for like 5 SGD? It's crazy right!
Taxi there is really cheap too, but you MUST ask them to go by the meter if not they'll overcharge you.
At the Suvarnabhumi Bangkok Airport :)
Something random. All the drivers we've met in this whole trip (taxi drivers, tuk tuk drivers, even the woman paddling the boat from the floating market), they drive fast and furious!! Seriously! I noticed the taxi drivers all drove straight from 120-140. Like a woah.
Had a great vacation despite the news about the flood (Bangkok wasn't affected... until the day I returned to Singapore). So I guess I was pretty lucky. And thanks to everyone who wished, had a great birthday this year thanks to my family, my best buds Hazel, Melvyn, Shinya, & Jin, and also my boyfriend and his family :)
P.s. Every year, over and over. | | |
